Therapeutic Recreation

“Our Therapeutic Recreation staff has put together special memory boards in our Alzheimer’s / Dementia Unit.  Instead of just hanging a picture on the wall, we put together different themes for each board that could spark a memory for a resident.  It was wonderful to put together the boards for our residents and their family’s to enjoy”.  As told by Kathy Roeser, Director of Recreation.

Alzhemier’s and Dementia Services - Welcome to our “Circle of Friends”

Oak Hollow is very proud of the care provided on the secure floor of our facility dedicated to the care of individuals with Dementia.

As recipients of a training grant, we developed a unique program, the “Circle of Friends".  The goal of our program is to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere, promote a sense of well-being, and provide quality of life to each individual .

We encourage residents to participate, to their ability, in daily activities including reminiscense, "sit-r-cize", cooking class, aromatherapy, nature walks, pet therapy, crafts, sing-a-longs, and much more.  We enable each resident to express their feelings in a positive and effective manner and provide emotional support for residents and family members. Our dedicated, trained staff understand the special needs of this population.

The goal of our “Circle of Friends Neighborhood” is to:

  • create a safe, secure and nurturing environment for residents;
  • promote a sense of well being for the individual in need of such services;
  • provide relief for caregivers while they participate in the plan of care;
  • provide a structured, comprehensive program that provides a variant of health, social and related services in a protective 24 hour a day setting;
  • and to retrofit an environmental design that will assist in attaining and maintaining the resident’s highest ability physically, mentally and psychologically.
